Charles Pennington, Chief Executive Officer
Charles, our company founder, brings more than 25 years of cross-border corporate finance advisory, structured finance, and capital markets experience to the team. In his corporate finance career, Charles has raised and led debt and equity investments exceeding 2 billion USD and advised on transactions exceeding 1 billion USD in Asia in a variety of industrial settings including technology, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and engineering-driven manufacturing and services.
An Ivy League educated financial advisor from America, Charles holds a degree in Economics from Dartmouth College and a Masters degree in Financial Management from the University of Paris-Sorbonne. Charles will focus on deal origination and offshore execution in Asia.
John Pennington, Chief Operating Officer
John is an experienced financier and fund manager. John has overall responsibility for managing the research and portfolio management activities of Pennington’s international investment teams, including equity and bond portfolios. John joined Pennington in 2005, initially as an analyst with a global remit, mainly focused on technology and industrials. In late 2006, John assumed the COO position.
Before joining Pennington, John has had a long career as a fund manager, including leading the Global Equity Research group at Citigroup Asset Management in the USA for three years and managing a fund for the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Later, he was head of Asian Equity Research and Portfolio Manager for HSBC Funds in Hong Kong. John was one of the leaders who developed the HSBC-Bank of China consortium that led equity development for Chinese state-controlled and private industries. John is a Chartered Financial Analyst and earned his BA and MBA at UCLA.
William Lee, Director
William is an entrepreneur with roots in America, Asia, and Europe. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He is an Asian-American who proudly traces his roots to the Lee Dynasty of Korea on his father's side and to England and Ireland on his mother's side. William was educated at Duke University, Chapel Hill, North Carolina where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and an MBA.
Peter Graham, Director
Peter co-founded Pennington Trading in 1998 and Pennington Fund in 2003. Prior to Pennington, he worked in the Global Markets division of Citigroup. He received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Economics (magna cum laude) from Carnegie Mellon University. He also received his Master of Science in Financial Mathematics from the University of Chicago.
Stephen Lynch, Chief Financial Officer
Stephen is a successful Hedge Fund manager and founded his own options-based valuation, portfolio advisory, and Risk Management Company in 2000. An expert in quantitative options pricing, Stephen brings on board a wealth of experience in valuation, risk analysis, and portfolio management.
Prior to joining Pennington Trading, Stephen was the Group Director of Finance at Pfizer, Connecticut U.S., and also held senior positions in Deloitte Consulting and ABB prior to that. Stephen holds a Masters in Engineering from Northwestern University, an MBA from the University of Chicago GSB, and is a CFA charter holder.
Walter Drake, Managing Director / Head of Trading
Based on his wide experience in sourcing, valuing, and buying mid-market technology and engineering companies in Europe, Walter has put together a 900 million USD M&A pipeline. He also brings an extensive repertoire of transactional, strategic, and operational experience and insights in our chosen sectors, gained while working for Bank of America, Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, Accenture, and CMC Ltd, a subsidiary of global off-shoring leader TCS.
As a TMT equity analyst at DLJ and Bank of America in London, Walter advised institutional investors on investments and capital raisings exceeding 6 billion USD. A University of Lausanne graduate and an MBA from University of Bayreuth, a top-ranked German business school, Walter also holds a Masters in Finance from the London Business School.
